Korg has remedied that here with the inclusion of multiple resonant filter models, including emulations of both the Polysix and MS-20 filters. One of the weaker aspects of the original Wavestation was its filter, which lacked resonance and character. The Wavestate receives polyphonic aftertouch via external MIDI, but it’s a shame not to have it built-in. There’s one omission on the modulation front though, in that there’s no aftertouch from the built-in keyboard (although it does have velocity and release velocity). There are also six assignable performance, rotaries on the front panel, a complex modulation matrix – allowing for the depth of any routing to be modulated by a secondary source – and a pair of Eurorack-like modulation processors. The compressor is the TrackPlug Vintage compressor, with presets tailored to voice processing.There’s a lot more to the Wavestate’s modulation options aside from this though, including per-voice envelopes and LFOs for amp, pitch and filter, plus an additional LFO for pan position (each of the Wavestate’s 64-voices is stereo).
The EQ section is the powerful and easy to use TrackPlug equalizer, with 10 bands of equalization, 11 different filter types to choose from, and a variety of presets. De-plode and de-ess are custom processors use de-plode to tame plosive sounds and use de-ess to adjust the amount of sibiliants. The de-noise processor is the stellar sounding MR Noise algorithm with a simplified interface. The de-buzz processor squelches nasty line frequency buzzes. The de-hum processor uses notch filters to eliminate 10 harmonics of either 50 Hz or 60 Hz hum. The brickwall filters have variable rolloff slopes and can be used to cutoff low or high frequency ranges. Separate presets for each section allow you to get results fast. Dialog includes brickwall filters, de-hum and de-buzz processing, broadband noise reduction, de-ploding, de-essing, 10-band equalization, compression, and limiting. It is perfect for voice-over, film/tv recordings on location or sound stage, and broadcast.
